MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Summerville High School is to provide a safe, nurturing, and challenging learning environment which prepares and encourages all students to be lifelong learners who are college and career ready.


Summerville High School has an enrollment of over 3400 students for the 2025-2026 academic year.

SCHOOL ACCREDITATION AND SCHEDULE

Summerville High School is an accredited school through the South Carolina State Department of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Summerville High is a comprehensive high school, serving students in grades nine through twelve. The school operates on a hybrid schedule which includes A Day /B Day year-long and semester block courses. Classes meet for 90 minutes whether year-long or semester block. Yearlong classes run from August to May and semester long classes run from August to December and January to May.

CURRICULUM

Summerville High School offers a variety of challenging courses. Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment (EW) courses will carry 1.0 additional weight on students' GPA. Honors courses (HW) carry an additional .5 weight in the GPA. Students who take High School 101 during freshman year will satisfy the comprehensive health education requirements by completing health modules provided within the High School 101 course.

The South Carolina Department of Education requires that students earn a minimum of 24 Carnegie units. Participation in statewide college and career assessments are strongly recommended. Minimum course requirements are as follows:

SOUTH CAROLINA GRADING SCALE

South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy has established weighting for grades and class rank on the following scale:

 

Letter Grade 2016-2017 and beyond Prior to August 15, 2016
A 90-100 93-100
B 80-89 85-92
C 70-79 77-85
D 60-69 70-77
F 59 and below 69 and below

We have approximately 70% of our students pursuing post-secondary education at the two- or four-year college level.

ATTENDANCE AND CREDITS

One Carnegie Unit is awarded for the successful completion of each year long course or full credit Semester block course. One half Carnegie Unit is awarded for Quarter courses. To earn a credit, a student must have a passing grade (60 or higher) and meet state attendance requirements.
 

SPORTS

Football, basketball, cross-country, track, tennis, soccer, swimming, softball, baseball, golf, wrestling, club hockey, cheerleading, and volleyball are offered to students.
 

CLUBS

Many clubs are offered to students based on their interests. Some clubs offered are Student Council, HOSA, Color Guard, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Habitat for Humanity, Rho Kappa and Model United Nations.
